Lessons in Love: A Baby Growing Up with a Dog

💚

When I was pregnant, everyone warned me to be cautious around Miku, my dog, fearing that she could carry viruses that might harm my newborn. But as time passed, I realized Miku wasn’t a threat at all—in fact, she brought countless benefits and beautiful memories to our family.

Having a dog before having a baby taught me patience and showed me how to both give and receive love. When my son was born, Miku acted just like an older sibling—at first, a little jealous of all the extra attention from mom and dad. But as my baby grew and our daily routine fell into place, Miku slowly accepted that this tiny new family member was here to stay. Instead of jealousy, trust began to grow between them. Now, they take naps together on the floor and share everything—from toys to snacks.

Watching their bond blossom has been one of the most heartwarming experiences. Sometimes, I catch my son sneaking pieces of his snacks to Miku, laughing uncontrollably when she grabs a toy from his hands, or excitedly tossing food from his plate just to see her reaction. He loves chasing her around the house and, in return, craves her attention just as much as ours. You might not believe it, but his very first spoken word wasn’t “mama” or “papa”—it was “Ku.” Every morning, after waking up, the first person he looks for is me. The second? His fluffy, brown sister.

Looking back, I’m so grateful we had Miku before our baby arrived. She’s not just a pet—she’s family. She’s teaching my son lessons in love, companionship, and sharing in ways no one else could. And in return, he’s giving her a best friend for life.
